AYURVEDA SATRAM – 2007
An Overview 

Under the auspices of Ayurveda Gurukulam Panmana Asramam an Ayurveda Satram has been organized from Sunday the 14th to Friday the 19th October 2007. Ayurveda Satram 2007 has been inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Mr. C. DIVAKARAN and he expressed that Ayurvedam is a way of life. He said Ayurveda has to be optimised to face the future challenges of the Health Scenario in the state of Kerala. Dr. C.K. RAMACHANDRAN Chief Guest of the function stressed the need of integrating modern medicine with Ayurveda Dr. MR. VASUDEVAN NAMBOOTHIRI, Principal Govt. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram gave the Introductory Speech on the Topic “Control and Eradication of Contemporary and Forthcoming diseases” through Ayurveda. Dr. J. HAAREENDRAN NAIR, Managing Director, Pankaj Kasthuri made an eloquent but brief narration about the patent issues and solution of Medicinal plants. Panmana Asramam Madathypathy H.H. Swami PranavanandaTheerthapadar with his power words highlighted the contribution of Shri Chattambi Swami Thiruvadikal towards this system.

Swami Nirmalanda Giri Maharaj, the Key Resource person of Ayurveda Satram commenced his discourse series on versatile aspects of Ayurveda with its ancient elegance and greatness on 14th October afternoon. His enlightening thought provoking critical humorous comments on the ignorance of common man about healthcare continued everyday in three sessions throughout the Satram. He has also conducted medical consultation and interviews in the mean while. Swamiji’s very authoritative and scholarly lecture series inspire general public traditional healers, manufacturer’s doctors and hundred of Ayurveda Students who attended the Satram.

Chittattinkara Krishan Pillai Vaidyan the veteran in the field of Ayurveda exploded on the increasing use of harmful drugs by Modern Medicines and he demanded a collective effort to tackle this dangerous situation. On the same day, Sri. G. Venunath, presented his views on Ayurveda-A General Perspective. He remarked about the need of keeping the quality of Ayurveda medicines for the further growth of this system. Dr. MATTAKAR4A RAMACHANDRAN NAIR, Chief Physician, Ayurveda Division, AIMS, Kochi elaborated the procedure of Rasayana Chikatsa and shared his rich clinical experiences span over half a century. Prof. D. ARAVINDAKSHAN, Chairman and Managing Director, Agastya Biopharm India expressed his opinion about the remedial measures to be taken to solve the scarcity of Medicinal plants.

On the IIIrd Day of Satram, Dr.SANKARA CHAITHANYA, Medical Director, Amritha Ayurveda Medical College, Vallikavu made an elaborate presentation on Achara in Ayurveda. Later Sri. Radakrishna Chaithnya gave a detail list of Herbal Medicines. Dr.S.Vidyadharan, Principal and Director Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurveda Studies & Research explained the Diagnosis and Treatment of Epidemic fanes and associated symptoms.

Dr. K. UNNIKRISHNA PILLAI, Member, Expert Committee for GMP, Govt of India gave a thought provoking account about the potential and possibilities of Mercury based medicines in his talk on “Use and Misuse of Mineral Medicines”. Dr. K.G.SREEKUMAR, Senior Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram made a brief description about modern Research in Ayurveda and quality control of medicines. He is associated by Dr. Radhakrishnan, Scientist, TBGRI to give an enlightening session on Tribal Medicines through a very impressive power point presentation. In the afternoon Dr. Jasmine Saneesh graduated from Govt. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram made a paper presentation on “Prevention and Management"
